Common 'Electric Circus' Edit
Recorded at Electric Lady Studios at the tail end of the fertile period that brought a slew of neo soul and rap classics (from Voodoo to Things Fall Apart) Common’s Electric Circus is a kaleidoscopic survey of R&B, blues, rock soul, and rap. Released in 2002 with its Sgt. Pepper’s referencing cover (not exactly a hip reference point for a rap album in 2002), it was too early to get the love that The Love Below got for essentially accomplishing the same thing, and too “weird” to get the praise that Common’s previous album, Like Water for Chocolate. Common never made another album like it, but its status as an underrated classic grows stronger every year.
