Much of the practically infinite “bossa nova” output of the era sounds hopelessly dated, evoking cosmopolitan cocktail parties filled with hep cats (or even more likely, given the music’s popularity, squares), while the records that get played today are mostly those with Brazilian artists among the personnel. Jazz Samba, though, endures—unpretentious, straightforward, and timeless.
