This reissue of ‘Don’t Sweat The Technique’ marks the group’s fourth studio album, originally released back in 1992 through MCA Records. In this record, the duo explores heavier social elements like the U.S.’s involvement in Gulf War. The track “Casualties of War” dives into this topic, addressing themes of PTSD and navigation of being Muslim amidst this context. “What’s Going On” explores additional themes of the crack epidemic in NYC, police brutality, and crime. Each track is full of complexity, and doesn’t shy away from the truth. On this record, Eric B & Rakim are absolute storytellers; although they take the listener through ideas of their time in the early ‘90s, we can see how these gain a new relevance even today.
